They say: Following closely to the events of Blackest Night, this miniseries event concludes as the Amazonian Princess comes to terms with who she is and what her role is in the world. But will her acceptance make her more appetizing to the Black Lantern hordes - or could that emotion be their undoing?
I say:Blackest Night Wonder Woman has been one of the stronger entries in the may Blackest Night tie-ins. The art has been solid, and the storyline has been intriguing. It's certainly not the shining star for the week, but it is a good possibility for a decent read this week.
They say: Get ready to hit the road with U.S. ACE, Marvel's truckin' hero!
He's back behind the wheels of a big rig with an unlikely partner -- Deadpool -- and together they're puttin' the hammer down, ridin' the open road, and decapitatin' giant killer raccoons.
Good times...if they don't kill each other first! Featuring the working-class villainy of the Highwayman, and the world premiere of the chart-toppin' 'Ballad of U.S. Ace,' composed and performed by Wade Wilson.
What part of 'Collector's Item' don't you understand?
I say: This is still one of the most fun titles on the shelves today. I'm so loving the Deadpool Team-up.
Marvel Heartbreakers #1
Creative team: Story by kathryn Immonen and others; Art by Lara West and others
Villain to Watch: Cupid's fickle arrow
They say: This Valentine's Day, drop that box of chocolates and satisfy the inner romantic with an oversized helping of heartache! In these four spandex-ripping tales, the fabulous femmes of Marvel discover that there's no such thing as love without tears...and that super powers won't protect them from Cupid's arrow! Will it be MJ Watson or Gwen Stacy that charges Peter Parker's electrons?
Can the girls of Nextwave survive a visit from the ghosts of boyfriends past?
Is Snowbird in danger of letting her animal passions get the best of her?
And must Dazzler choose between the stage and a certain fuzzy mutant hunk?
Find out in this special filled with passion, power, and pain!
I say: OK. I know it doesn't look like much, but I read the preview earlier this week, and this actually looks pretty decent. Let's face it. How bad can they screw up a bunch of love stories? ...Right?
Siege #2
Creative team: Story by Brian Michael Bendis; Art by Olivier Coipel
Villain to Watch: Taskmaster
They say: The blockbuster Marvel event of the year goes full-blown carnage and madness as the biggest and most brutal battle in Marvel's history brings together heroes from all sides.
Lines have been drawn, and an unlikely hero will save one Avenger, but they can't save them all.
The Siege has begun and it claims its first victim as an Avenger will die!
I say: That shining star I mentioned a while ago? That would be this title. This is the one to make sure you grab this week.
They say: Who-or what-is Ultimate X? The answers and even more secrets arrive in the all new Ultimate X ongoing bi-monthly series from the superstar dream team of Jeph Loeb and Art Adams. Wolverine is dead. Captain America is a fugitive. The Fantastic Four disbanded. Lives have been destroyed and nothing can ever be the same-is there any hope left? It all begins with a search for a brand new character whose identity will leave jaws on the floor and change the Ultimate Universe forever.
I say: You don't see Ultimate titles on this list very often. Part of that is my own bias. I'm unashamedly an old-school comics fan and this Ultimate stuff just don't feel right to me. But, there's something about this story hook that has me intrigued.
Who says you can't teach an old dog new tricks?
...And One To Pass...
Doom Patrol #7 Creative team: Story by Keith Giffen; Art by Matthew Clark
Villain to Watch: The denizens of Oolong Island
They say: Oolong Island is picking up the pieces after the Black Lanterns' devastating attack. Former Patrol member Crazy Jane finds the island first, bearing terrifying news of what's to come... Plus, more Metal Men!
I say: I've been pretty cool on this re-launch of Doom patrol. Even names that I generally love -- like Giffen and DeMatteis -- can save it. It just hasn't been the sort of thing that I had hoped for. And these "second features?" I gotta be honest. I's like a little more out of the main feature before we start talking about seconds.
