Chapter 16 | Page 25b: “…under his favorite cork tree, smelling the flowers…”

Angus finally returns from exile… but will he ever be the same?

When the heroes return, the mystery of Angus’s betrayal takes a shocking turn. Lightning Lady learns the mole was an alternate version of herself, armed with stolen tech and inside knowledge provided by Justice Ltd. With the Lethal Librarian’s cunning (and unexpected assistance from Lt. Columbo), the team works to clear Angus’s name. But even with the truth revealed, new questions linger—some stranger than others.

Now that his name has been cleared, Angus can safely return to Evil Inc. However, he’s spent a considerable time trapped in a Hemingway novel about the brutality of bullfighting. Could he have survived all this time?

Panel 1

Cassie Cruz: If Angus is innocent, shouldn’t we set him free? He’s been trapped in that Hemingway novel all this time.

[Lethal Librarian exiled Angus to “Death in the Afternoon,” a novel about the brutality of bullfighting in Spain.]

Desi: YIKES! We had to read that one in high school. The only thing worse for the bulls is the Rocky Mountain Oyster Festival.*

Catnip: Or maybe Chicago’s 1999-2000 season. [This is a reference to the disastrous season faced by the Chicago Bulls the first year after Michael Jordan retired.]

Jeremy: Or… You know… Big Macs.  [Back in the 80s, Big Macs were made with ground beef. As far as I know, this may still be the case, but they sure don’t taste the same.]

*Every March in Virginia City, Nevada. “Come have a ball… or two…”

Panel 2

Lethal Librarian releases Angus from the book that she had exiled him into. However, for some reason, he’s wearing a garland of flowers. In fact, flowers are floating all over the place. (Which is probably a good thing since he’s wearing a kilt and from the low angle of this shot, we’d have to make this an After Dark page otherwise.)

The gathered supervillains cheer in the background. Even Lt. Columbo looks on with warm affection with his one good eye.

Panel 3

Quietly, the Lethal Librarian removes the copy of “Ferdinand the Bull” that she had been hiding ~inside~ a hollowed-out copy of “Death in the Afternoon.”
